Do you know the history of this temple? It's one of many sacred spiritual places of power that attracts thousands of travelers year-round. It houses a fragment of the body of Sati, Shiva's consort. Sati burned herself, offended that her father did not invite her and her husband to the sacrificial ceremony. Shiva grieved for a long time and wandered with her body through the Himalayas for many days and nights, until Vishnu cut her body with a powerful weapon - the Sudarshana chakra. He did this with good intentions, otherwise she would not have been able to be reborn and again become the wife of Shiva, since the funeral rituals would not have been performed.
Now, pieces of her body are scattered in 51 locations across India and Nepal, considered sacred and highly revered. It is believed that the site of the Kunjapuri Temple is where Sati's heart resides. Subsequently, thanks to the observance of traditions, Sati was able to be reborn and become Shiva's second consort, Parvati.
More details can be read in the ancient Vedic texts – the Puranas.
